U.S. Army Rescues American Hostage in Nigeria

An American citizen who happens to be a missionary was rescued from his abductors early Saturday. The missionary was revealed to be Philip Walton, aged 27 and was said to live in a small village located in Southern Niger. This village is situated close to a border with Nigeria. His abductors were armed men in the northern part of Nigeria and had him within their custody for days.

However, Pentagon released a statement concerning the incident and stating succinctly that the man had been rescued in the early hours of the day and is now in the custody of the U.S department of State. Jonathan Hoffman, the Chief Pentagon Spokesman said: "this American citizen is safe and is now in the care of the U.S Department of State". He further added that no U.S. military personnel were injured during the rescue.

President Trump confirmed the incidence with his tweet: " big win for our very elite U.S. Special Forces". Considering the issue of security challenge in the Northeastern  part of the country, it really is a big win.
