26 girls Kidnapped by Katsina Bandits Reportedly Rescued by Zamfara Government (details)

Mr Zailani Bappa who is the Special Adviser to Governor Matawalle on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communications released a statement about the release of 26 girls. The age of abducted girls ranged between 8 and 12. Their abductors took them to a bush in Zamfara state. This bush doubles as their hideout. The girls were released by the bandits who had previously kidnapped them to the state government without the payment of ransom. Mr Bappa stated that Governor Bello Matawalle's intervention made the release possible.

A statement was issues to that effects. It states that:

“The girls who were kidnapped by bandits in Faskari local government area of Katsina State, were brought into the bushes of Zamfara but were miraculously discovered by the state government."

The statement mentioned how the state was able to secure their release. "They were released through negotiations held by the state Commissioner of Police and the state Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs, who have been in constant dialogue on behalf of the government with bandits in the state on the need to embrace peace and live a normal life.”

“For those who believe we are wrong to dialogue with the bandits, the securing of these minors who are all girls, unhurt, is indeed priceless”.

The Governor welcomed the rescued girls in his office. He specifically stated that his administration will utilise peaceful dialogue with the bandits in order to seek a lasting solution to problems of banditry in the state.

The governor talked of his belief in peaceful negotiations as a better way to solve insecurity issues in the state. He prised that peaceful dialogue is better in comparison to the use of force.
