Breaking: Explosion Rocks NNPC in OML 40 Facility


Dr Kennie Obateru (NNPC Spokesperson) released a statement on this incidence. This took place in Abuja on Tuesday (4-11-2020). The Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), is a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).  An explosion at a production facility in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 40 was reported by the facility.

Obateru revealed that  the OML 40 was a facility that was handled by its partners, Elcrest Exploration and Production Nigeria Ltd.

Obateru disclosed that: “there was, however, significant damage to the marine storage vessel, MT Harcourt, which will impact production by about 10,000barrels of oil per day.

He further explained that: “NNPC has since commenced investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident with a view to averting future occurrence”.

The incidence was said to occur while production evacuation was ongoing  at Gbetiokun Early Production facility. The good news is that no fatalities or injuries were recorded. There was also no significant oil spillage according to reports.
