Oil (Petroleum and Gas) Workers Begin Strike (details)

Oil workers have embarked on strike on Monday (9-11-2020). The oil workers under the aegis of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria got the directions earlier in the day.

The order was given in a letter which was duly  signed by Lumumba Okugbawa. Mr Okugbawa is the General Secretary of PENGASSAN. The letter was dated 8th November, 2020.

The letter which contained the directive was copied to the Central Working Committee members of the association. The instruction contained therein is that the workers should halt their services.

The directive proceeded the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum given to the Federal Government over IPPIS implementation agreement.

The major reason for the hitch between ASUU and Federal government is the rejection of IPPIS by the former. The  implication of the oil workers strike is that it might lead to fuel scarcity. It might also lead to hike in fuel price made available by black marketers.
