Six Things You Shouldn't Do while Trying to Lose Weight


Weight loss is a very serious activity and a controversial topic, this is because a lot of people have several suggestions on how best to go about it. Most times, losing weight is not as easy as gaining weight. People lose weight at different rates depending on their body types and what they do or don't do. For someone like me, I easily lose weight whenever I get stressed for a long period of time without sufficient rest, while for some other people, stress never affects their weight, they really need to be more deliberate on weight loss. Some people also lose weight faster than they gain weight and vice versa. It all depends on the combination of several factors.

Being overweight can have negative effects on a person's health. According to WHO (that is World Health Organisation), a body mass index (BMI) greater than or equal to 25.0-29.9 is overweight and BMI greater than or equal to 30 indicates obesity. A good way to check if one is obese is: BMI= a person's weight in kg divided by the square of his or her height in metres. There are several things to be put into consideration when trying to lose weight.

Things to Watch Out For When You're On A Weight Loss Journey

1.Junks: Some people eat junks more than they eat good, healthy meals and this is very wrong. This is because while junks may be more tasty and handy, they do not provide the necessary nutrients your body needs for wholeness. They tend to contain unhealthy fats too. Consuming good, nutritious foods is very important. Make sure you take balanced diet because you'll get wonderful vitamins from it as well. Avoid too much fatty and too much greasy foods.

2. Excessive Sugar: Instead of taking processed/refined sugar, take foods that contain natural sugar/glucose moderately, they're healthier and better. It's preferable since those foods will also have other nutritional values unlike pure sugar. Honey is actually better than refined sugar. Rice is very high in carbohydrates, do not eat it too often if you're trying to lose weight. Cut down on your sugar and carbohydrate intake.

3. Dehydration: Make sure you always hydrate, drinking sufficient quantity of water per day (at least 8 glasses) is necessary. You can also get hydrated by taking fruits with high water content like watermelon. One trick that drinking sufficient water does is that: it will help you check the quantity of food you consume.

4. Eating Excessively: Do not eat for quantity but quality.When you eat so much food at a go, you'll likely accumulate fats. It is more advisable to eat little quantities of food at interval. Vegetable and fruit salad should be included in your weekly food plan.

5. Late Night Meals: A lot of people enjoy eating late, this is unhealthy because it can lead to indigestion and constipation. It is also a bad habit to eat while lying down. Try to eat some hours before going to bed so that the food would be properly digested before you sleep, and it wouldn't cause constipation or accumulation of excessive, unhealthy fats in your body. Sometimes, this leads to stomach fat as well. The body likely just stores up those fats that aren't yet broken for use. Cultivate good eating habit and eat at appropraite time, it's better to eat before it gets dark. Make sure you don't eat heavy meals at night; taking light meals for dinner is better.

6. Not Exercising: Exercise everyday, it does have a lot of other advantages aside burning of calories. Proper exercise gets rid of excessive fats, helps us attain firmer muscles, better stamina and aids in attaining physical fitness.
